The indicators generated by the Urban Indicators Programme have enabled UN-Habitat to make a strong argument for drawing the attention of the world public and global policy-makers to cities and have been formed the basis of a number of reports. The city-level indicators have remained too general, however, to be of use in monitoring the Millennium Development Goals globally, or in assisting national or local actors in reaching to policy decisions. The Monitoring of Urban Inequities Programme, ontheotherhand, is structured to provide a rich source of reference information on intracity differences, mainly between slums, non-slum residential areas and rural areas.
